Course
Description
This course aims to equip students with the basic knowledge of management information systems (MIS) fundamentals. Nowadays, most businesses face several challenges (both managerial and operational), and thus they rely on information systems to turn such challenges into opportunities. Accordingly, this course is formulated to cover key topics of MIS include: Information systems basic concepts, the role of information systems in business environments, complementary assets of information systems, types of information systems and their functions in an organization, foundations of business intelligence, foundations of telecommunication and Internet technologies, and the principles of e-commerce business and revenue models.
Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs)
CLO1: Define the basic and modern concepts of information systems.
CLO2: Describe why and how information technologies are used to accomplish operational and strategic goals.
CLO3: Understand the use of the various types of information systems for managerial problem solving and decision-making.
CLO4: Describe the basic concepts of database systems and business intelligence: how they function, how they are used, when they are used, and why they are used.
CLO5: Recognize the use of telecommunication and Internet technologies.
CLO6: Identify the various business and revenue models being implemented in electronic commerce and how they can be used to support organizational strategies.
