This course is designed to broaden the student’s perspective of the nurse’s role in influencing and improving health care system and practices and emphasizing the fit of nursing within the larger organizational structure, it is designed to introduce the students to the concepts, principles, and core management and leadership competencies necessary for promoting patient centered nursing care environment.
The role of a professional nurse as a leader and manager of care is explored; including effective leadership behaviors related to introduction of change to organizational performance.
Critical thinking will be utilized throughout the course to promote effective decision-making, problem solving, and producing necessary changes.
Five main domains will be integrated throughout the course including system’s approach, continuous quality management, leadership, change, and evidence based decision-making.
Class activities and instruction will be based on five main themes, and learning will be promoted through different class activities, coaching, discussion and in-depth analysis of class topics, role-playing.
